Children’s skin care and its main goal is to make the skin beautiful, gentle and above all healthy. Know that it is never too early or too late to encourage children to take care of their skin. Children should learn to take proper care of their skin at an early age.
And the responsibility of us elders is to teach them how to do it properly!
The skin is the body’s largest organ and its appearance can make a big difference in a child’s self-esteem. Encourage good skin care habits during the early years and your child will be well on his way to a healthy, clean life.
What should you tell your children about proper skin care and what products should they use during the different stages of childhood?
Here are some quick guidelines on how to care for your baby’s skin at each stage of its development.
Babies’ skin is delicate and prone to dryness, which is why it’s best to use gentle soaps and shampoos specially formulated for their delicate skin needs.
Read the ingredients list carefully and look for products that do not contain dyes, alcohol, parabens or synthetic fragrance.
Baby’s skin also tends to lose moisture quickly, which is why moisturizing is so important. Within 3 minutes of bathing, apply a gentle baby lotion to the skin to keep it hydrated and protected.
Do this at least once a day and as often as you feel necessary. This will help to hydrate your baby’s skin and make it much more resistant to environmental irritation.
To protect your little one’s delicate skin from sun damage, seek shade as much as possible and avoid direct sun exposure when outside. Use a sunshade on their stroller, use wide-brimmed hats and dress them in comfortable clothes.
At the age of children after 3 years, you should start teaching the basics of basic hygiene. Begin teaching proper hand washing. Children love to explore things with their hands and mouths – it is very important to teach them the importance of washing their hands regularly to stay healthy.
As your child approaches age 4 or 5, give them opportunities to practice washing their own bodies. Allow them to bathe independently, but definitely under your supervision.
This is also the perfect time to teach them the right water temperature to use: not too hot and not too cold. Reinforcing this habit as they grow creates a solid foundation for skin health and will prevent skin dryness!
At school age, children are more independent and begin to make decisions on their own. The habits they form during these years are likely to carry over into adulthood. A simple twice-daily skin care routine is a good foundation for skin health.
Some kids also have early signs of puberty, so you’ll notice a pimple here and there. Soaps can irritate their skin, so it might be an ideal time to introduce a gentle facial cleanser to such children. Be sure to talk to your pediatrician or dermatologist before using a facial cleanser.
You have to be careful and considerate when it comes to baby skin care. Because many hygiene products intended for children and teenagers are full of glitter, colors, bubbles and synthetic fragrances. Unfortunately, these ingredients can irritate the skin of some children.
Skin care becomes extremely important during the teenage years. Teenagers undergo hormonal surges that can make their oil glands hyperactive, leading to oily skin that’s more prone to acne and blackheads. During that period, you have to help them to fully cope. Choose quality skin care products that will alleviate their problems. Because you will help them maintain healthy skin. Blemish- and acne-free skin will increase their confidence level.
Glowing skin comes from maintaining a balanced diet, adequate fluid intake, adequate sleep, a healthy lifestyle, and moderate physical activity. Unfortunately, we often have no control over teenagers, especially when they want to be independent and make their own decisions. Allow them to use the right skin care products to use in the daily skin care routine. The key to success is teaching them to follow a simple day and night skin care regimen.
